About me
Ray Wisbrock is a Chicago-area comedian who has established himself as one of the region’s top dark comedians and has been described as a “twisted Mitch Hedberg.” When asked why he likes performing dark comedy Wisbrock explains, “I like the challenge of working with a difficult subject and coming up with something so original and funny the audience can’t help but laugh. Based on the response I’ve been getting, there’s definitely an audience for dark comedy when it’s done right and not just for shock value.”
Wisbrock has performed at all the big name Chicago clubs including: Laugh Factory, Zanies, Chicago IMPROV, Comedy Bar, Laugh Out Loud Theater, CGs Comedy Club, The Comedy Shrine, and many others venues. Wisbrock believes his job as a comedian is to make people laugh and show them a good time so they not only want to see him again but also want to come back to the venue as well. He says, “I love when people come up to me after a set and say that I was hilarious and ask when I’ll be back because that’s a win-win for me and the booker’s club.”
When he’s not doing comedy, Wisbrock is active in the community as a hospice volunteer and also and dresses up as a superhero visiting children in hospitals. “Given my comedy, some people are surprised to hear about my volunteering,” Wisbrock says. “. The reality is it has shown me the importance of humor as my patients often tell me they appreciate me making them laugh, especially given their circumstances. Parents often will say that my visit was the first time they’d seen their child smile in quite laugh in a while.”
